Fertility tracking is the most important thing you can do to take control of the ttc process. Here are my top three methods of tracking (see the acronyms page if any of this seems like its written in a foreign language to you - it will soon become second nature!):
(1) CM - this is the best indicator for me. CM usually starts out sticky or creamy in the beginning of the cycle and turns into EWCM just before O and at the time of peak fertility. As the name suggests, EWCM looks like raw eggs - it is most fertile when you can stretch it between two fingers about an inch without breaking. When you see EWCM, get bding! (2) OPKS - these are also critical for predicting O, but be warned that they do not work well in the cycle right after MC or for ladies with PCOS. I start on cd10 with the digital clearblue OPKS and then I test with FMU (first morning urine) every day until I get the flashy smiley face that tells me I am in peak fertile days and about to O. When you see the smiley, get bding! (3) BBT (Temping) - this doesn't predict O, but it will confirm that it happened afterwards, which is useful for estimating when you are going to ovulate next month. Use a BBT this is sensitive enough to track small changes in body temperature (I use Femometer) and input the data into a charting app like FF. FF is by far the best and most widely used app and its basic features are free. I'll post a tutorial on temping next time for you guys! What do you ladies do to track O?
